On Tuesday, the Delta State Police Command implemented a ban on vehicles with concealed or tinted license plates across all roads in the state as part of their efforts to address security concerns. The Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, emphasized the importance of proper vehicle registration.
The command's spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, based in Warri, conveyed this information through a statement. The statement emphasized the commitment of the command to combat various forms of insecurity, particularly kidnapping incidents, during the 'ember' months. CP Wale Abass issued a stern directive to all officers to be proactive in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities.
The statement further outlined the Commissioner's instructions to Area Commanders, Divisional Police Heads, and Tactical Commanders to intensify their efforts in the battle against criminals in the state. The public was urged to bear with the command as the implemented measures, although slightly inconvenient for residents and road users, are ultimately for their benefit.
Due to criminal activities often involving vehicles with tinted windows and concealed plate numbers, CP Wale Abass warned that all vehicles on state roads must be properly registered with visible plate numbers. Unregistered vehicles and those with concealed plate numbers will face impoundment. Additionally, tinted vehicles will not be permitted in the state, and residents with such vehicles were advised to remove the tint.
In his appeal, the Commissioner sought understanding, emphasizing that these actions are taken for the collective well-being of the public. He also encouraged the general public to promptly report any alarming or suspicious incidents to the nearest police station or use dedicated contact lines: 08036684974; 08125958005; 09053872287 (Control Room); 09155570007; 09155570008 (PPRO Office).
