During Otukpo bank robbery, DPO and three officers lose their lives along with two suspects: Police reports.

In a harrowing turn of events, a meticulously organized gang of armed robbers launched a brazen attack on Friday, targeting no less than five different banks within the confines of Otukpo town. 

This audacious display of criminality sent shockwaves through the community, leaving citizens and law enforcement alike grappling with the audacity and scale of the operation. 

 The Benue police command swiftly swung into action, determined to bring these malevolent culprits to justice. In a fierce exchange of gunfire along the perilous Otukpo-Taraku road, officers valiantly confronted the assailants. The ensuing confrontation resulted in the decisive neutralization of two of the robbers, a testament to the bravery and resolve of the police force. 

 The list of embattled financial institutions reads like a roster of pillars in the banking sector: Access Bank, First Bank, Zenith Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Stanbic IBTC Bank. These venerable institutions, pillars of the community, now bore the scars of a heinous assault. 

 Despite the valiant efforts of the Otukpo Divisional Police Officer, CSP John Adikwu, and his dedicated team, the robbers managed to breach the defenses, launching their assault on the banks with ruthless precision. The cost of this siege was tragically high, as four police personnel fell victim to the unrelenting violence. Among them, the DPO in Otukpo, who displayed exemplary courage, bore the brunt of the attackers' brutality, sustaining a grievous gunshot injury to his stomach. 

 In the wake of the calamity, a determined pursuit of justice unfolded. More police contingents, bolstered by a collaborative effort with other security agencies, descended upon Otukpo, fortifying the area and ensuring that the marauding robbers could not escape with impunity. Their escape was thwarted as they were intercepted along the treacherous Otukpo-Taraku road. 

 Despite the loss of four valiant officers, the dedication to apprehending these malefactors remains unswerving. A resolute vow echoed through the ranks of the police force: " We are still going after them. " This unwavering commitment to the cause of justice stands as a beacon of hope for a community grappling with the aftershocks of this brazen attack.
