Inter Milan plot Chelsea transfer swoop that could help Mauricio Pochettino seal Ivan Toney deal

Chelsea have emerged as a keen suitor for Brentford's prolific striker, Ivan Toney, as the January transfer window approaches. However, their pursuit may hinge on offloading players before making any acquisitions. One potential candidate for departure is Chelsea's young forward, Armando Broja, who has caught the eye of Inter Milan. The Italian club's interest in Broja could play a crucial role in facilitating Mauricio Pochettino's pursuit of Toney. The English forward has long been on Chelsea's radar, and with his impending return to the pitch following a suspension, a move for him is on the horizon.
Yet, signing a player who's been absent for a significant portion of the season due to a ban carries inherent risks. Competing interest from Arsenal and Tottenham intensifies the competition, setting the stage for a potential three-way bidding war. Reports suggest that Chelsea are currently leading the race to secure Toney's signature in the upcoming transfer window. According to insiders, Toney aligns perfectly with Pochettino's criteria-being English, possessing the right age profile, and having a proven track record in the Premier League.
Nicolas Jackson's start at Stamford Bridge has been somewhat uneven since his arrival from Villarreal in the summer. While he's managed to find the net three times in nine appearances in all competitions, he's also been guilty of missing significant chances. On the other hand, Armando Broja showcased promise by scoring in his initial start for the Blues against Fulham after recovering from a serious knee injury sustained the previous December. However, he struggled to replicate that impact in the subsequent 4-1 victory against Burnley, underlining the inconsistency Pochettino is grappling with in his attacking options.
Recent reports from Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport indicate that Inter is contemplating a move for Broja in January, believing Chelsea might be tempted into a deal if the 22-year-old continues to struggle for' continuity'. Offloading Broja, who is valued at £17.2 million by CIES Football Observatory, could significantly bolster Chelsea's chances of securing Toney, not only by creating space in Pochettino's squad, but also by injecting additional funds for reinvestment in acquiring the English forward.
