Tinubu's administration vows to provide employment opportunities for a whopping five million young individuals through the N-Power initiative.

The Federal Government has articulated an ambitious plan to empower and uplift the lives of young Nigerians through the revitalized N-Power scheme.
Akindele Egbuwalo, the esteemed national programme manager for N-Power, recently unveiled this transformative endeavor. The scheme, presently undergoing a comprehensive restructuring, aims to generate gainful employment opportunities for a staggering five million young individuals within a span of five years.

Under this visionary blueprint, the programme's age bracket has been extended, now encompassing individuals aged 18 to 40, thereby widening the scope of its impact. This is a significant departure from the previous age limit of 35. The strategy is poised to implement a phased approach, targeting one million beneficiaries annually, both from the graduate and non-graduate segments.

This revamped initiative is set to incorporate an array of dynamic new programmes, spanning critical sectors such as education, health, works, agriculture, technology, fashion, entertainment, and various other pertinent skill acquisition domains. The intention is clear: to equip participants with a diverse skill set that aligns with the dynamic demands of the contemporary job market.

The N-Power coordinator, Mr. Egbuwalo, underscored the paramount importance of transparency and accountability in this reimagined venture. It is evident that a commitment to these principles is imperative in instilling public trust and confidence in the expanded programme. The prevailing ethos is a departure from the status quo, as the administration strives to recalibrate the nation's trajectory, ensuring that no individual, directly or indirectly, imposes undue hardship upon the populace.

This ambitious restructuring was necessitated by the discovery of irregularities and improprieties within the programme's operations over the past year. It was imperative to suspend operations temporarily, providing the necessary space for an exhaustive investigation into its functioning. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Beta Edu, made the announcement regarding the suspension, emphasizing the need to scrutinize the past year's activities of the N-Power programme. Instances were uncovered where participants, whose enrolments had lapsed since 2022, continued to expect remuneration from the government.

Since its inception in 2016, the N-Power initiative has emerged as Nigeria's bedrock work-for-cash social assistance programme. Spearheaded by then-President Muhammadu Buhari, it has been instrumental in providing direct benefits to a multitude of participants, actively engaged in key sectors such as agriculture, health, education, and taxation.

A recent report has shed light on the irregularities that transpired under the administration of the N-Power programme during the Buhari era. This illuminating exposé underscores the urgency and necessity of the present restructuring efforts, aiming to rectify past deficiencies and pave the way for a more equitable and prosperous future for Nigeria's youth.
