As per a statement from the Red Chamber, the Nigerian Senate emphasizes its unity and familial bond. On Saturday, the Senate refuted allegations of certain senators plotting to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio, labeling these claims as baseless and unfounded.
In the statement issued by Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, it was reiterated that the Nigerian Senate functions as a cohesive and close-knit family.
The statement also discredited what it termed as a fabricated narrative, akin to the debunked story of a purported 100 million per legislator. Adaramodu highlighted the 10th Senate's diligent execution of legislative and constitutional responsibilities under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio.
He further pointed out the prompt passage of bills and motions that enhance the quality of life, all achieved in less than 60 legislative days. The Senate also conducted thorough screening and confirmation of service chiefs and ministers, alongside its oversight duties.
The statement cautioned against fifth columnists, operating outside the Senate, who aim to sow discord through media sensationalism, potentially undermining Nigeria's democratic process. It emphasized the need to allow the Senate the space and stability required for its national duties, thus enabling progress in the Nigerian project. Additionally, the media was urged to exercise discernment and not become unwitting tools for disseminating false or detrimental information.
