Wind Chronicles reports that Chicago State University has confirmed that Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu submitted a forged certificate to INEC. This revelation emerged during a deposition of school officials in Chicago, where they unequivocally stated that the certificate dated June 22, 1979, which Tinubu presented to INEC on June 17, 2022, was not issued by the university.
This development poses a significant challenge to Tinubu's legitimacy, as the certificate was his sole academic qualification submitted for the presidential race. The legal battle, initiated by his opponent Atiku Abubakar, has culminated in a crucial victory, with CSU administrators ordered to provide all relevant documents regarding Tinubu.
Tinubu's attempt to prevent this outcome was met with resistance, as his legal team argued that releasing these documents would cause irreparable harm. The school's inability to authenticate the certificate has far-reaching implications for Nigeria's population of over 200 million.
This revelation also sheds light on Tinubu's previous false claim of obtaining a degree from the University of Chicago during his 1999 gubernatorial run. Despite escaping accountability at the time, this new evidence may lead to a different outcome, as presenting a fake certificate to INEC is constitutionally prohibited under Section 137 (1)(j) of the Nigerian Constitution.
The collected records and deposition materials are currently being prepared for submission to the Nigeria Supreme Court, with a final decision expected by December 6, 2023. This development could potentially mark a significant turning point in Tinubu's presidency.
