President Bola Tinubu has penned a missive to the Senate, seeking their endorsement for three fresh ministerial candidates. During their Tuesday session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio was tasked with presenting this request.
The nominees include Balarabe Abbas Lawal, who hails from Kaduna State, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim representing Kwara State, and Mr. Ayodele Olawande, originating from Ondo State. In the August of 2023, the Senate meticulously examined and granted approval to 45 ministerial candidates, though they disapproved of three. Noteworthy among those who did not receive the Senate's endorsement was the erstwhile Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.
During the evaluation, a legislator expressed concern about a "significant complaint" against El-Rufai. Senator Sunday Karimi, hailing from Kogi West, brought the attention of his fellow lawmakers to these objections against the previous FCT minister.
"Your accomplishments in any role you've held in the country have been exceptional. Your track record in the Bureau of Public Enterprises speaks for itself, as does your tenure as FCT minister and your two-term governorship in Kaduna state," he commended El-Rufai following his presentation.
"However, I have a very substantial complaint against you that revolves around the security, unity, and cohesion of the Nigerian nation," the All Progressives Congress (APC) legislator appended. "I believe that this complaint needs to be taken into account in this assessment process."
