Members of the House of Representatives make a committed promise to ensure that Mohbad receives his rightful royalties from Naira Marley's record label.

Representative Olumide Osoba warmly expressed concern about the current system's limitations in adequately safeguarding the rights of emerging musicians.

During an interactive session in Abuja, Chairman Olumide Osoba assured Mohbad's family of the House of Representatives' unwavering commitment to ensuring rightful compensation and royalties from his musical legacy. This session included representatives from the Copyright Commission and the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria.

This promising development stems from the proactive motion presented by Babajimi Benson (APC-Lagos) to secure Mohbad's song and lyric royalties.

Mr. Osoba emphasized the pivotal role of compensation and royalties, recognizing them as crucial streams of income for artists. He highlighted how these payments not only sustain musicians' careers but also pave the way for them to create new music and build a future within the industry.

However, he candidly acknowledged that the current system often falls short in adequately safeguarding the royalty rights of young musicians. He lamented the challenges faced by emerging artists in negotiating fair royalty agreements, especially when dealing with major record labels who often wield considerable influence. This, unfortunately, results in artists receiving a mere fraction of the royalties they rightly deserve.

He earnestly noted, "It is of paramount importance to acknowledge that young musicians may not always be well-versed in their rights when entering contracts."

Recognizing this knowledge gap as a significant disadvantage, he stressed the societal responsibility to bridge it. He advocated for equipping young musicians with knowledge about their rights and ensuring they have access to legal support to protect their interests.

The committee, he revealed, has promptly sought relevant information regarding the circumstances surrounding Mohbad's passing and the measures in place to secure his royalties and other associated benefits. This inquiry is set with a deadline of next week, underlining the urgency of the matter.

The committee further extends an open invitation for any additional information or challenges that might hinder the implementation of musicians' rights and royalties.

It is with deep sorrow that we recall Mohbad's passing on September 12, under circumstances still shrouded in mystery. The Wind Chronicles extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and fans.
