NECA and a CSO praise labor and FG's resolutions.

NECA's Director-General, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, lauded both the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for their recent resolutions.
He emphasized that the essence of trust in the country lies in the collective efforts of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. Oyerinde stressed the significance of social dialogue in resolving disputes, highlighting it as the most reliable method.

This commendation comes in light of the suspension of the impending nationwide strike by the NLC and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on October 2. The strike, initially slated for an indefinite 30-day period starting October 3, was called off following agreements between the labor unions and the government regarding palliative measures to alleviate the plight of Nigerians.

Oyerinde urged the government to honor its commitments and uphold the terms of the resolution. He emphasized the importance of enhanced productivity within the labor force to drive the wheels of production.

Furthermore, Okeke Anya, a program manager at the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, a civil society organization, stressed the necessity of innovative approaches to address economic challenges. He underscored the need to restore citizens' trust in the system, a trust that has been elusive since the aftermath of the elections.

Anya raised concerns about the disparity in the palliative, pointing out that while federal workers received a 35,000 Naira benefit, the situation for state and local government workers, as well as the millions of unemployed Nigerians, remains unaddressed. He echoed Oyerinde's sentiment regarding the imperative role of the executive, legislature, and judiciary in reinstating trust among Nigerians in their country.
