The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shared that the cost of a 5kg cooking gas went up from N4,072.87 in July to N4,115.32 in August 2023.
In their report for August 2023, the NBS stated that this increase was about 1.04%. However, when compared to August 2022, the average price dropped by 7.66%.
Among the states, Kwara had the highest average price at N4,816.67, followed by Benue and Zamfara. Ondo had the lowest price at N3,299.29.
Looking at different areas, the North-Central had the highest average price, while the South-West had the lowest.
For the larger 12.5kg cooking gas, the average price went up slightly from N9,162.11 in July 2023 to N9,194.41 in August 2023.
Comparing with August 2022, there was a drop of about 7.12% in the average price. Among states, Cross River had the highest average price, and Adamawa had the lowest.
Across regions, the South-South had the highest average price, and the North-East had the lowest.
As for kerosene, the price per litre went up to N1,272.40 in August 2023, a 0.92% increase from July 2023.
Year-on-year, there was a significant increase of 57.18% compared to August 2022. In terms of states, Adamawa had the highest average price, while Jigawa had the lowest.
Looking at regions, the North-East had the highest average price, and the North-West had the lowest.
For kerosene per gallon, consumers paid an average of N4,351.53 in August 2023, which was 1.06% higher than July 2023.
Compared to August 2022, there was a 47.63% increase. Among states, Lagos had the highest average price, and Delta had the lowest.
Regionally, the North-East had the highest average price per gallon, and the South-South had the lowest.
