The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced on Monday that it carried out successful airstrikes against several Boko Haram and Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists near Lake Chad in Borno. These strikes targeted areas known as Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu between September 27 and 30.
The NAF's spokesperson, Edward Gabkwet, explained that the airstrikes completely destroyed the terrorists' hiding places, along with their structures and important supply bases in the region. At Tumbun Fulani, NAF aircraft spotted terrorists loading containers onto two hidden trucks. As a result, an immediate strike was launched to intercept this location, believed to be a crucial supply hub.
After the strike, a thorough evaluation confirmed that several terrorists were eliminated, and their trucks were rendered inoperable. A similar operation was carried out at Tumbun Shitu, targeting suspected terrorist hideouts camouflaged by thick vegetation. Three trucks carrying terrorists were observed heading towards this location, prompting the necessity for a strike.
The statement emphasized the Armed Forces of Nigeria's unwavering commitment to reducing terrorist activities in the Northeast and across Nigeria. The success of these operations reflects the improved coordination and collaboration among all security agencies, as well as the steadfast support of the Nigerian populace.
